Wednesday morning was a great success last week, when Year 1 bravely embarked on a trip to the South Pole! Our Antarctic morning involved meeting Emperor Penguins and learning about how the father penguin keeps the egg warm while mum goes off fishing. We also travelled to the South Pole by plane and boat, using compasses and feeling the icebergs along the way! While we were there, we built a base camp and had to work together to share the resources. It was great fun experiencing the extreme winds of the Antarctic in a wind tunnel! We also spent time fact finding using information books and played fishing games. One of our favourite parts was building snowmen an having a snowball fight! At break time, we warmed up with hot chocolate and even tasted herring and smoked mackerel just like penguins might eat – and Antarctic explorers. Some of us loved the fish – some of us didn’t! We finished the day off with a trip to the forest as we were all dressed for the outdoors. Altogether it was a fantastic day!
Finishing off the fun in the forest.
