Foundation and The Rare Breeds Farm

The Foundation children ended their topic on Transport with an exciting trip out to The Rare Breeds Farm in Totnes.

Earlier in the term, the children had been visited by The Naughty bus which they were able to go on but due to the lack of seat belts were not allowed to travel on. However this time, to their surprise, instead of a coach arriving, a double decker bus arrived to take the children to the train station! The children were thrilled to have a ride on the ‘naughty bus’ again!

When we arrived at Buckfastleigh train station, we all had a little time to spare so the children visited the museum and loved looking and going on the old trains. Then the whistle blew and it was time for us all to go on a steam train that would take us to The Rare Breeds farm.

The farm was amazing, such friendly staff who were incredibly accommodating to our Foundation children. We had such fun here.

The children got given a bag of food and told which animals they were allowed to feed and then they could go off (in their groups!) and meet and feed the animals. Some children were a little hesitant at first and not sure about feeding the animals but after seeing that it really was quite safe, they loved it.

It was fantastic to see the different types of owls and have the children stroke them, they also really enjoyed meeting the guinea pigs and having them sit on their laps.DSC00982

After all this excitement, it was washing hands and boarding the steam train once more to go back to Buckfastleigh. The children loved having their lunch on the train and were all brilliantly behaved. We were able to have a short play in the park before having to go back on another bus back to school.

It was a much quieter journey this time as we had quite a few tired children (and Staff!) and so we all arrived back at school feeling rather sleepy!

What a fabulous day and a great way to end a brilliant topic. Well done to the Foundation children who have consistently surprised us with how well behaved, kind and thoughtful they can be.
