Year 3 will be developing their own civilisation over the Summer term which will involve deciding on the rules we want to live by. Therefore, we’ve been learning all about democracy over the last few weeks and how that through discussion and debate, we can make decisions and resolve our differences.
There have been some fantastic (and at times heated!) discussions as the children have been practicing their debating skills. We have been really impressed with how well the children have listened to others, reflected on what they have heard and often adapted the way they think and respond as a result.
The motions that were debated included banning sweet things from packed lunches and allowing every class to have a pet. We saw a number of interesting and humorous responses, some of which can be seen in the video below.
