From the very beginning of their starting school, the Foundation Children have shown such a interest in reading and a delight in sharing books.
We often find the children during Continuous Provision time, in the reading area enjoying books either on their own or with friends. As a result of this interest, the children have made remarkable progress in their reading development and this is made evident by their enjoyment in this activity.
As part of World Book Day, we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon where the Year 6 children came down to Foundation to read and share books with the younger children.
The Year 6 children were researching how younger children learn to read and how a good understanding of phonics helps with this.
The Foundation children loved this and they happily partnered up with a year 6 child and got to choose the type of book that they wanted.
There was lots of discussion based around the book and then around the subject. We were so pleased with how well the children interacted with one another but also how much all children enjoyed the books.
