What an exciting start year 5 had to their new topic of mountains! We had the pleasure of having a real life mountaineer visit our classes, who came equipped with snow suits hiking gear and tales of expeditions up Mount Everest. The children were thoroughly engaged and some even went away inspired to get into climbing.
Year 5 got creative with the geography topic ‘Mountains.’ After spending time learning about and researching mountains around the UK and the rest of the world, we decided to present our findings in a pizza box project. Check out our step by step photographs that show the process from beginning to end. We also looked at how mountains are formed and studied the different types of mountains there are around the world. Finally we explored contour maps and learnt how to read them which will come in handy in the future if we ever go out hiking or mountaineering.
