As part of our drive to help all children achieve the reading targets by the end of year 1, reading is celebrated and encouraged in all aspects of our learning. Recently, we have buddied up across the year group and the children have really enjoyed sharing books with their partners.
Our amazing teaching assistants have been working individually with children every day and this is already having a great impact on reading progress. Thank you to the parents who have found time to pop in and read with children. Please do come in if you find you have a spare moment – even half an hour makes a difference. Perhaps grandparents or family friends would also like to help? Even Mrs Chapman’s mum volunteers every week! We just ask that volunteers make sure they have an up to date DBS check in line with our safeguarding policy. If you aren’t sure how to do this, please speak to the office staff who can help with this simple process.
The children are doing so well at learning their sight words also. Some children are practising reading the words by sight to build fluency, while others are working on spelling the words. Thanks to all the grown ups who have found fun ways to help us learn them!
