During our maths learning before half term, we learned how to add and subtract on a number line. We are able to add and subtract by counting on or back in ones, but we are challenging ourselves to use more efficient methods. One way we can do this is by adding or subtracting the tens in jumps of ten. Some of our confident mathematicians have also been learning to add and subtract by bridging to ten. We have also been learning to add and subtract ten and multiples of ten on a 100 square. Some parents have asked us to clarify some of these methods, so we thought it may be helpful to upload some videos to demonstrate ways the children have been shown to add and subtract. This may help you when supporting your child at home, or it might be interesting for you to watch with your child to help keep the learning fresh in their minds!
