Year 5 started the summer term with a fantastic trip to London. As our theme this term is World War II, we visited several attractions as a hook for our work. We went to HMS Belfast, the Churchill War Rooms and the RAF museum at Colindale. They have all given us lots of information and inspiration for our theme.
We started our visit at the National Science Museum, where the children got a ‘Hands On’ experience in the launchpad. In the evening we took in the sights of London from the River Thames on an hour long cruise. The sunset was amazing!
On Thursday we had a busy day. It started on HMS Belfast, the only cruiser from WWII remaining in Europe, which was fantastic. We then headed off to the Churchill War Rooms to see where Winston Churchill made all of his important decisions during WWII. Finally, in the evening we went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was superb! A busy, tiring but fun day.
On Friday we headed off to the RAF museum at Colindale. No one had been there before so we didn’t know what to expect. Well it turned out to be an amazing place. 90% of the planes in the museum were restored originals dating back to WWII. There was a Lancaster bomber, Spitfires and Hurricanes. The children loved it.
It was a great trip but we were all glad to get home on Firday!!
